a ponder : success/Alcohol
I have been ponding this afternoon about success, I was recently reading a piece about how success (I assume financially etc) destroys character, the writer disputes this and says that success exposes character. I agree with this idea.
I associated exposing character with alcohol and the activities that go with it, I think it's the same thing, alcohol exposes people,,, for example:- some are terrifying some just want to go into town and fight some just want to sing some just lurrrrrrrrrve everybody in sight some are just soooooooooo funny, their natural comedy is revealed People blame alcohol for a great deal in the inner cities, but I am of the opinion that if it is not in you, it won't come out. What do you think ?

Re: a ponder : success/Alcohol
When I was going to the pub and getting drunk I was one of them that wanted to sing. I made all the Tom cats jealous
. Not a very nice noise! As you said it does get rid of your inobitions (if I've spelt that right). My Mam used to say to me that I was just like my Dad - out of beer, quiet as a mouse, and in beer you couldn't shut me up! Now my tipple is a glass of whiskey at home just before I go to bed. Which reminds me....getting to that time![]() PS My dog (avatar) looks like he could do with one . Actually I once had an Alsation and he like Advocat!

Re: a ponder : success/Alcohol
There is also a big difference between being slightly merry and drunk.
Its the people who do not know when they should stop and binge who create problems for themselves and for others. In the UK binge drinking makes city centres no go areas at night.

When I was of an age where I hit the town the inner cities were not 'no go' areas, they were definitely rather loud places because we all thought we could sing lol lol ... I do not believe it is alcohol that makes this happen, but the type of people who congregate together.

Re: a ponder : success/Alcohol
Alcohol is a drug that causes mental, emotional, and behavioral changes in those who use it depending upon their physiology and the amount they ingest. Obviously, a small glass of wine or a beer is not going to make anyone rabid unless they are allergic to the substance (are alcoholic) and therefore can have radical reactions to the substance including an increased desire to ingest more alcohol with increased abnormal behavioral and emotional reactions that a nonalcoholic would not experience. Heavy use of alcohol can also cause physical damage in the person usually in the liver but also in other areas and extreme use of alcohol over extended periods can cause brain damage. There is no proof that the ingestion of alcohol brings out the "true person" in any reputable medical journal or periodical about the disease of alcoholism or alcohol use. There is however abundant proof both anecdotal and scientific that the ingestion of alcohol causes (usually temporary) behavioral and emotional changes in the user in both perception and reaction whether a person be alcoholic or not.

Re: a ponder : success/Alcohol
Take a group of young people- add cheap and liberal amounts of alchohol. Spend hours picking up the pieces, think why Street Pastors and 24/7 work as they do in club areas.
Its a real social problem in the UK. When I have a bit more time I will try and dig out the stats.
