How do we overcome fear?
To remove fear from our heart we must have perfect love (1John4:18). To have perfect love, is to have perfect faith in God; because God is love. When we have perfect faith in God, His love expressed through His sacrifice on the cross (in order to expiate for the sins we committed against Him) becomes a reality to us. We, therefore have an absolute confidence that He will protect us from evil. This frees us from anxiety and fear. Furthermore, because of this faith we too will forgive those who have betrayed us and have been unfaithful to us; and compensate for their offenses by sacrificing our pride and feelings, and by staying faithful to our commitments to them. In addition, because love is selfless, if we exercise love, we would be concerned about the pain and suffering of others, rather than our own. These would free us of jealousy, lust, hate and revenge.

What you are stating (total reliance on the Lord in every way all the time) is something we try to achieve but few reach. I have experienced it several times and have experienced perfect peace in his rest on a few brief occassions but for the most part, have the foibles that others of our species have. I have fear, anxiety, and other troublesome emotions sometimes but that is part of my humanity and also how I was created. I bet you do too. In fact I know you do with about 99% accuracy. Yet we have grace and love and compassion from our Lord who helps us in accordance with His will and loves us infinitely whether we are being perfect or not. I'd like to see you participating more in the threads that you start. How about it?

Re: How do we overcome fear?
I may have mentioned this before but many combat veterans will tell you that they do experience fear in the face of combat. It is taking action in spite of fear however that shows courage. And I know a few guys that are just plain fearless but for most of us, we all have fear when faced with dangerous or emotionally troublesome situations.

Re: How do we overcome fear?
I have heard many say sometimes we just have to do things afraid..... It is no different when we follow the Lord in most cases we have to put our fear a side and just do what God wants us to do.

Re: How do we overcome fear?
I believe that Psalm 56:3 has got it right. When we're afraid we then go to God and are 'Fully Relying On God''
